Market analysis of cloud computing and data centers in five countries
For one of the leading telecommunications operators in Europe, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the cloud computing and data center market in CEE/SEE countries (Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Slovakia, Hungary). The market analysis and forecasts were supported by comprehensive quantitative and qualitative research in each country.
Objectives of project
The client, as an active player in the data center market, needed exhaustive information about the markets in which it operates. PMR’s task was to examine:
- Competitive environment in the data center market,
- Market size measured by key performance indicators (KPIs), such as facility capacity (MW), net IT area (m2), gross area (m2), revenues,
- Market trends in cloud computing and data centers, especially in the context of geopolitical situations (e.g., the war in Ukraine, rising energy prices).
Understanding the attitudes of business customers was also crucial. The client was particularly interested in information about the major players in the data center market, their facilities, and planned new constructions in the coming years.
Project details
As part of the project, PMR conducted 20 in-depth expert interviews (IDIs) with providers (integrators, service providers, telecommunications operators) operating in the cloud computing and data center market (supply side), and a quantitative survey conducted using CAWI and CATI methods with a total sample of 500 companies (demand side) from five CEE countries.
The data obtained through research, combined with desk research, were then used to calculate key indicators describing market values and structures in each country, as well as other quantitative measures. These were subsequently used to model five-year development forecasts, taking into account not only sectoral data but also macroeconomic environments in each country.
Project results
The results of the project included:
- five dedicated reports for each of the surveyed countries,
- a strategic report containing comparisons between individual markets,
- an executive one-pager with the key findings.
Additionally, the client received a database containing time series with forecasts for the years 2023-2027, describing the cloud computing and data center market, as well as a broader context – the value of the IT market and complete macroeconomic data for each of the five countries. Similarly, a database containing all quantitative research results was provided.
